Artworks by Philip Aspden
Philip Aspden first exhibited artworks in a solo show at a small gallery in Paddington, Sydney in 1977. Amongst the paintings were some small drawings that have developed into a group of characters called the ‘Bushys’
Evolving in style and content over time, more characters have been added. In 1988, Philip wrote, illustrated and published a small picture book featuring some of them — ‘The Bushys and the Green Ant Blunderbang’
Interractive activities of drawing, painting, poetry and music performances then saw the Bushys presented in various formats within Public Programs at the Art Gallery of New South Wales. From 1991 to 2005.
Now under such titles as Wompybomp Wanders, Tellyrun Trails and Fumbly Factory; the programs have developed and expanded to appearing at various state and regional galleries, museums, schools, juvenile correction centres and public festivals.
From 2010, Philip has attended art residencies in Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Dawu, Wuhan, in China and Mataram city, Lombok. Indonesia
