About

 Philip Aspden

Many years ago, emigrating to Australia from England on a ship called the Cheshire, I'm smiling at the impossible sight of flying fish through the looking glass of the porthole - and I wondered could there be any greater inspiration for imagination and a creative mind? Was the ship named Cheshire after the cat in Alice in Wonderland?
Backpacking around my new country, working at many and varied jobs, I read everything I could, especially books about myths, legends and the lives of famous artists.
From this I developed my own artistic skills and produced a series or cartoon characters known as "The Bushys". They first appeared in a solo exhibition of paintings and drawings in 1978. Soon after these characters appeared first in an interactive drawing experience within a programme for The Art Gallery of New South Wales as solo efforts, then with accompanying music (with songs co-written by artist/performer Ray Cumming) and visits to many schools and institutions, including art residencies in Australia, Indonesias and China.

Please enter and enjoy the creative world of BushyBush.
